As someone who's pretty obsessed with fashion, walking through places like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Seoul made me realise once more, how I love capturing fashion through street photography. This story is all about my quest to gain more confidence for high quality street photography. Trying my best to snap the essence of everyday life and fashion while being the fly on the wall.

Everyday People and Their Style

Japanese street fashion? It's legendary! It's this mind-blowing mix of old-school and cutting-edge styles. Seems like everyone has an amazing sense for style, effortlessly blending traditional styles with global influences in their everyday fashion choices. Tokyo’s streets, especially around Harajuku and Shibuya, are like a kaleidoscope, bursting of colors and bold fashion statements. My favourite though, was Fukuoka, with it's a little more down to earth vibes, and cool calm of the residents. In fashion and in mind.

And then there’s Seoul. Korean street fashion, or "K-style", can be just as extra. It’s all about personal expression. Definitely worth the trip back for Seoul Fashion Week! From what I hear, the streets turn into a runway, showcasing styles that mix traditional Korean flair with modern global trends.

My Favourite Outfits

Throughout my travels in Japan and South Korea, I've stumbled upon tons of unforgettable fashion statements. In Tokyo, I fell in love with how people layered bold colours, patterns and fabrics. Meanwhile, in Seoul, the oversized silhouettes and quirky prints I definitely found a sense of connection to what they wear. Watching how people in these cities express themselves through their clothes has pushed me to rethink my own work, blending street and fashion photography to create something more real and candid.

Shopping Experience in Japan and South Korea Compared to Europe

Shopping in Japan and South Korea is a sensory overload like no other! In Tokyo, places like Ginza Six and Shibuya 109 aren’t just stores—they’re full-on experiences that engage all your senses. The attention to detail in product displays and the invitation to come and explore make shopping feel like visiting a museum that allows you to take all of the amazing pieces home. For the right change, of course.

Seoul’s shopping districts, such as Myeongdong, are this fantastic mix of sleek malls and traditional markets. These aren’t just places to shop; they’re consumer hubs offering everything from cutting-edge tech to traditional Korean goodies.

This journey through Japan and South Korea has not only awakened a deep wish to discover street photography but also deepened my understanding of fashion as a cultural expression. Capturing the everyday extravaganza and insanely well produced shopping experiences has left me wanting more extravaganza for my work as well.

As I keep exploring the world, I’m genuinely excited to see how these experiences will further shape my photographic journey.

Fashion should be shown in the way it can shine best. On the streets of our cities, for everyone to see. Every single day.

Stay tuned for more insights into the world of fashion photography, the occasional personal story and practical tips.
