In the rich tapestry of Ghanaian culture, a person's name often has a deeper meaning, tied to the day of their birth. The name Ono Ama, given to me at birth, is both a connection to my heritage and a manifestation of my creative identity.

What Does 'Ono Ama' Mean?

"Ono" is inspired by and derived off the word "Ɔyɛ" in Twi, my mother's language, which means "She".

"Ama" - one of the names traditionally given to girls born on a Saturday - is associated with creativity and wisdom. It couldn’t be more fitting considering my passion for photography and artistic expression. The wisdom part is still in the works ;)

Together, "Ono Ama" loosely translates to "She is Ama" - a creative spirit born on the day of wisdom. Something simple and yet, it captures my identity and ties it to my cultural roots. as a creative spirit, tied to my cultural roots.

Capturing My Creative Spirit

Ono Ama represents my search for creative expression. Like African wax fabrics, I weave together different influences to create bold and colourful imagery that tells a story.

Being a Saturday-born spirit shapes how I see the world. I love spending time laughing and exploring the world with people I care about - like a lovely Saturday afternoon with family & friends.

I bring the same warmth and energy to my work. Whether I'm capturing the essence of a brand, model, or creative vision, my approach is to always connect with who or what is in front of my lens. This helps me celebrate every aspect of the person or product through my photographs.

A Tribute To Heritage

As a photographer, my imagery both honors tradition and pushes for something new. My cultural background influences my perspective, but I strive to push creative boundaries and explore new angles. I want to create imagery that speaks, tells stories, and leaves a lasting impression.

So, when you see the name Ono Ama, know that it represents more than just a business. It is a tribute to my roots, a celebration of creativity, and an invitation to see the world from a different point of view.

This is me, Jennifer Grube also known as Ono Ama. I would love to hear about your story and capture what makes you special! Get in touch and stay tuned for more stories on photography and my journey.
